Xbox VGA cables - does the brand make a difference?

I bought a 3rd party VGA cable last week, the colours looked soft and washed out, i was pure gutted as I wanted some 1080p splinter cell goodness, and felt cheated that it was denied because of the display.

Has anyone compared the 3rd party ones, and the official microsoft ones? Ive had to convert the original cable into a belt for my dressing gown, but i dont want to go down the same route if i spend the extra on the official one.

Personally, I just can NOT tell the difference between the joytech and the MS one.
 
Most people pretty much say that the Official MS VGA cable is far superior to the 3rd party cables.
 
I got the Joytech one, I think, and I just don't use it at all. On my 19'' iiyama CRT its just rubbish. Terribly soft image and generally not worth playing on. I also had some terrible AA issues and I went back to using my 14'' TV as it gave a nicer picture. It just made the games look like bad PC games and somehow made it feel like I wasn't playing on a console. Hard to describe but in the past year I've never felt the urge to use it. If I knew for a fact that the MS one worked perfectly and gave me a nice HD image I'd get one for GOW.

Most people have reported when they've gone from the 3rd party cables to the MS, the washed out crappyness is usually gone. Best to wait for some testimonials though.
 
That comment about the dressing gown...please say your joking!

£15 is alright for a quality cable...wouldn't quibble over the sort of price they ask.
 
I've got a Blaze and thats fine. The Mad Catz one I had was pap.

Thats was back when they were as rare as rocking horse poop though. If your buying one today just go for the MS one.

Yes, the official cable is noticeably better than the rest (I owned 2 3rd party cables). No, I'm not peddling snake oil...
 
Ill give that a go then guys, sounds like it does make a difference. I was so gutted when it looked as it did, i really wanted to free the component port up for the wii.

Ill report my findings after i get one.
 
I've had a Joytech one for months now and whilst the colours did look washed out compared with component, there were others reporting this so I just assumed it was a VGA issue. The colours have become more vibrant since the spring update.

So I'm not sure whether it's worth the money to ditch the Joytech one for an MS one or not. :confused:
 
According to Major Nelson, there is a problem with some consoles and 1080p over component/VGA like washed-out displays (my Dell for one). The Xbox team know about it and allegedly working on a fix.

The cable ive currently got looks washed out at any resolution (not just 1080p).
 
mad catz one i had was utter tosh! (though was the only cable available in jan/feb time) on both my 19inch sammy tft and panny pj. bouht a microsoft one and its much better

the mad catz one did have fairly soft colours but i didnt mind that. it was more the wierd ghosting effects it always gave. when looking at the dashboard all the text would ghost and almost blur up constantly

that cables been sitting on my floor for the past month or 2 now lol i never tidy up

i second that.
i bought a madcatz cable when the microsoft one was like gold dust.
i changed to the official cable a few months ago and the colours are now much better.
you would not think a cable would make any difference but it does.

Yep, was in my case. Was quite shocked when I replaced my joytech with an MS one. Sharp, vivid on-screen text was most noticeable.
 
although i have no real big probs with the joytech i guess if im getting the hddvd i should get the cable to do it justice
