Just got around to instaling my xbox pad again and found the receivers led was not powering on. Then found its not being noticed by pc.

A bit of google magic later I found it was most likely one of the fuses that had blown.

Found a fix, but it involves bypassing said fuse with a bit of solder.

Warrenty is long gone so my options are,

Buy a new reciver, £14 after a quick look.

Or fix with the solder, i would need to get soldering equiptment etc plus zero experience.

Advice chaps?

Fuse is there to protect your computer from the faulty receiver. If you intend on fixing it yourself try and buy a replacement fuse to solder in place of the failed one. Bypassing the fuse with some solder risks damaging your computer when you reconnect it. If it was me I would buy a new receiver.

This.

I've had dodgy usb devices blow PSUs and mobos before (admittedly only once).

Cheers for the replys, think ill just get a new receiver but not keep it plugged in 24/7.

From my googling it seems that this is a fairly common problem.

Dont fancy blowing my PSU/MOBO

Gamestation had them in for £5 up here. I suppose it'll be chance if they have any in, but I would at least give them a phone. I'm assuming if there is a Gamestation in Inverness, Aberdeen will have one.
