I have a question about the original Xbox, is it capable of HD? For example if theres a HD component cable for it, and I was to source one, would it help image quality? Atm it's connected via scart.

Thanks.

You can get a component output for the original Xbox, and *some* games will produce a HD signal, but most games will only do 480p through the console, which isn't HD, but would be the best picture quality overall.

I don't think you can use the HD cable straight off on a PAL Xbox, as it requires a minor mod, which we can't go into here. There's probably a list somewhere of what resolutions each game supports, will have a search for it.

If you do want the best picture quality though without using component, go for the Xbox Advanced RGB SCART cable. Best overall quality through standard TV connection.

Well the screen used is a samsung R74 26" LCD

Don't get me wrong the games look fantastic, even for the system and age of it, but I can't help but taking it one step further to fiddle around with HD modes.

Perhaps I should just wait for a PS3 or buy a 360?

I was using my old Xbox via component before I got the 360, still got the lead lying around somewhere actually.

Some games that support 720+ look fantastic, however most will only do 480p which IMO looks a little rough. This was using a 23" Samsung LCD TV.

Unless you are going to be using your Xbox for a long time to come, which I would think is unlikely now, then I dont think its worth the effort.

If you want true HD gaming, then wait and either go for the 360 or a PS3, or both. The 360 will be able to play most of your old Xbox games, and some at HD resolutions also.

I found that link, it's quite a crappy search system, but here:

If you want to find games that support 720p, don't check 1080i as well, as it only brings back things that do EVERYTHING you check.
