Right played on xbox this morning, everything was fine and dandy. Come to turn it on now, am getting just the sound, but nothing physically on screen.

Any suggestions?

Is working again for now, is getting towards the end of its shelf life anyway. Had to press Y and RT on start up to reset the display settings.

Time to start looking for an Elite i think.....

Yeah, it's most likely a broken solder joint under the GPU where it links to the scaler chip. A common problem, send it back to MS if you're in warranty but if it's over a year old you're pretty much out of luck unless you decide to try to fix it yourself/send it to someone else to fix. It might work occasionally, but it sounds like it's leading up to an E74 error.

Before anyone suggests it, don't waste your time with the stupid towel trick.

On the other hand, if you got it going again by resetting display settings, it might not be a hardware issue at all. Result :)

Cheers for the info, i was having problems a while ago with it over heating a lot. So now its basically a barebone 360, took the case apart. Just waiting for it to die so i have an excuse to buy an Elite... Got my hopes up until it started to work :(

As said, GPU failure. If you're lucky, it'll work for a while. If you're not, it'll fail completely and you'll get no video. It is an easy fix however so long as you don't mind breaking open electronics.

just to continue from my thread that was posted above, I have since done the x-clamp mod as well as the oven trick a couple of times and my 360 has been problem free ever since and I've really been hammering it lately with assassins creed, GoW2, lost planet and halo 3 :)

Hmm, probably should have added that I have now done the x-clamp mod on mine as well, along with 3 other machines from friends, and all are running perfectly.
