Hi Guys,

I've just bought an xbox360 and I dont have a memory card or HDD so.....

I was wondering is it worth getting a hard drive for it if I only play games?

Does a HDD make games run better due to caching etc?

Or should I just buy a memory card?

Cheers

Yes, memory storage is essential for the New Xbox Experience. HDD is obviously better as it's a bigger capacity and you'll be able to copy your DVD games onto it to shut up the DVD drive noise.

There is a URL floating about. For people who do not have a memory card or HDD Microsoft are offering a reduced price 20GB HDD or a free 512MB HDD. The NXE (New dashboard) software coming out 19th Nov is too big to fit in the 360's ROM and needs 128MB of space so this offer is for people without storage so they can use the new dashboard (Like you!) I believe you enter your console details online and it figures out if you have a HDD or Memory Card based on your Live profile/history, or something.

Even if you do get your own HDD, it would be silly to refuse a free 512MB card.

They're no longer giving a free 512mb card away. :(

There's just an option for a cheap 20gb HDD.

It appears the OP doesn't have either. So he may have had an Xbox Premium sold to him but the seller has kept the HDD. Check online though - http://www.xboxstorageupgrade.com/hh/web/home/hhauthentication.jsp

I typed in my nephew's Arcade and it seems the UK is only entitled to a £19.99 20GB refurbished HDD with 3 months Xbox Live included. I hope the Xbox Live is a code on a card because I'll bag that and give him the HDD for Xmas.

well you certainly need some sort of storage to save your games, the HDD would be the best option, HDD does allow caching on some games I believe and as said you can install games with the update due soon.

Yeah the code's on a card :) I've done something similar to you:D

Can you install laptop HDD into the 360 or do you need to buy Microsoft ones? Just seen the price of the 120 GB version and its £99.99

So I can copy my games onto the HDD and play them from there?!?!?!

I didn't know I could do that, can you tell me how?

Cheers

When the NXE comes out. November 19th.

You'll still need to have the disk in the drive, but you'll get "improved" load times and a the xbox will be quieter whilst playing.
