XBOX360 freezing randomly?

Hi folks, I bought a 360 on 20th Jan from a well known record shop, a pro with HDMI (not a falcon though).

I was downloading demos from xbox live last week and it froze, I put it down to it being random, but I was now just having a game of PES2008 with my bro and it's just froze 75 mins into the game.

Control pad lights are on, xbox lights are on but the game is frozen and I cant do anything other than turn the console off by turning it off from the main switch on the 360 itself controllers do not respond.

Question is this;

1) If I take it back, do I have to go all the way back to Brighton where I bought it from to swap it?

2) Is this something I can ask for a Falcon for?

get replaced, dont see why u cant ask for falcon dont cost anything more

1) If you want the retailer to swap it then you will have to take it back in store. Although I know some bigger chains will let you take it to another branch etc. Normally stuff costs more in the high street than online, but it is easier to replace. This is why I always buy hardware from a local location that I would not mind travelling back to in a worst case scenario.

2) Depending on shop/chain most people don't even know what a Falcon is. It is highly likely that you will get a falcon now anyway, if not just explain you are unhappy and want a replacement and you have read that new ones fail less and the outside of the box will say "175w" on it. Any shop with half decent customer care will let you have one of them (it's not like you are making them open the box etc).

Bottom line, it will all depend on the shop, so due to the rubbishy competitor rules here, you would not get much more help from here without naming the shop etc, which will lead to you getting grief from Dons/Mods.

Yea, all I can say really is it's one of the biggest record shops! I guess i'll have to ring the Colchester branch and see if they say I have to go all the way back to Brighton :(
 
Mine started freezing about a month ago and then started giving me random RRODs when turning off the console shortly after, last week it RRODed when turned on and stayed that way.

Replace it.
 
Im guessing I can just tell them , it's frozen randomly twice already, I called Microsoft and was told to take it back to the retailer?

I still have receipt etc etc and it is less than 2 weeks old.

Im thinking about paying an extra few quid and getting an elite. Not that it guarantees a falcon unless I ask for

A) An Elite
B) To make sure it has 175W on sticker

Do you think they will let me?
 
I know when I was working at Argos they wouldnt take any back and insisted you had to deal with Microsoft.

As for recieving a newer model, just ask to see the box before you pay.

Depends how long he has had it, 28 days and he can return it to the retailer by law IIRC, and after that, read up on the sales of goods act.

I wouldnt take it back saying its freezing, if they are remotely sneaky they will blame Xbox Live being very slow to log in recently and causing consoles to freeze (seems to enjoy doing that recently). Take it back saying it has given you a RROD and want a replacement, then they should replace it no arguments, if they test it just say its doing it randomly and isnt constant.

As for the falcon chipsset, I dont see any reason why you shouldnt be allowed to have one, just check the box for a 175W rating before acepting the replacement.

Doesn't look bad. At the end of the day you are in the right. if they ask, just say you have heard people say the Elite is better so you wonder if you can swap. Don't say an amount though, let them suggest one and haggle down if you can.

Stick to your guns, say it freezes randomly and MS told you the retailer should sort it out. If they get shirty explain you bought it 2 weeks ago etc. If you are feeling cheeky (I would!!) say that Microsoft even said on the phone that newer models are more reliable and they are susprised the shop is selling the old models, and Microsoft advised you to get one with the 175w sticker (but only if you are feeling brave, I appreciate not everyone likes to lie or tell half truths)

And don't take no for an answer!!!! It is a high street shop, not an Internet Forum, they won't be as smart as us :D

Thanks for the help mate, i'll do it Friday and let you all know how I get on, I don't mind about paying the full extra price for an Elite, im fairly easy going, little annoyed I have to download the game demos again but hey it's not the end of the world.
 
Hi Hyper, surely when its only 12 days old (it will be 12 days before I can get to the shop) I have every right to take it back?

Sorry mate, didnt see the part about it being only 12 days old, if that was the case then yes they would take it back no questions asked.
 
Thats ok mate, it wasn't where I bought it, but where you worked, would it have mattered which store it was from, if you still had receipts and everything?
 
Update - Changed it in the shop today, extremely helpful manager (the young trendy type - very down to earth and knew what he was talking about!)

I swapped it for an XBOX360 ELITE, paid an extra £50 but I wanted the Elite afterall.

Code on box is;

TEAM - FDOU / 0745
175W on box and PSU
DVD Drive is a BENQ

Very happy :D
