xbox360 hd purple problem

My mate has just got a 360 like me and now has a hd tv, he has plugged in the component hd av cable into his tv and flicked the switch to turn it to hd on the console. But all dark/black areas now look like a deep purple. Any ideas why this is happening?

It is a new 26" LG lcd tv.

has he used anything via component on his tv before? Could be a faulty input or faulty cable.

Have you tried the obvious; adjusting the colours on the TV?

Maybe one of the cables isn't pushed in 100%?

Maybe turn the console's HD settings to a lower setting then back up?

Has he triple checked that he's not got the cables mixed up hence sending the wrong signal to the worng jack.
