Hi all,

I've owned a 360 for awhile now and although enjoy it I have not played it that much and still feel 'new' to it.

I game on my 19" monitor so select a resolution of 1280. Does this have any negative effects on gaming? I.e the higher res I select on my pc, the fps goes down.
Also, what are the 'reference levels' in the settings?

Thanks,

The short answer is no..

The 360 works differently to PC's, it renders the game internally at a fixed resolution (normally around 1280 * 720, and differs game to game), it then hardware scales this to your 'output resolution' so even if you have the 360 set to 1920*1080 on a HDTV/Monitor, the game itself is still only rendered at the lower internal resolution..

Err.. OK, maybe it's not very clear..

The Xbox has a specialized hardware scaler which can scale the internal rendering frame buffer (1280x720) up and down to all manner of resolutions. Even more are coming with the NXE.
