Xbox360 saving games to use on another console?

Hey folks,

I have a 360 and im changing it for the new one, I know once I add my gamertag to the new console it will bring all my friends list back etc however what do I need to do to transfer my save games?

I don't have many but things like Burnout Paradise etc i've gone quite far I didn't want to have to start again.

Can I just use a normal USB drive?

Yes you can now use a normal USB stick\drive - you are limited to 16Gb though. As I found it recently it does partition the stick so make sure there is nothing on it first.

You can then just choose "Transfer data" which will copy everything on your HDD to your USB device in one fell swoop.

Delete anything you don't need like game installs and demos so you can transfer the minimal amount.

Then you will need to go to xbox.com and transfer your licences so your DRM will work on your new console.

Hi guys thanks for the replies,

I haven't got any music or films on there, literally just Fifa 11, Forza 2 & Burnout Paradise in terms of game data saves, have a few demos which i'll delete though too.

You don't need to transfer the DRM licence unless you have other users on the xbox wanting to play the content (game add ons etc) that the master (Live) account downloaded from XBL. You can just fill the stick up with your save games and the profile put them on the new xbox and off you go, this includes XBL downloads as they will work on the master account no matter which console it is on.

They won't work unless you are signed into Xbox Live.

Indeed, If you dont transfer you licence all your DLC will not work in offline mode on your profile.
