oh dear why do they bother.
the consensus is that although in previous years the xbox360 edged forward they are now saying the gap has shortend.
but in my opinion shouldnt textures look far better on bluray as the can be viewed uncompressed due to bluray storage?
the only reason really these days to choose wich console you want is based on the online service available to each platform because all the games look the same.

for those that like to nitpick heres the link: http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6242816/index.html?tag=topslot;subtitle;3

The games may look the same but Eurogamer's Digital Foundry picks out the frame rate differences and the PS3 is always behind in that department on multiplat games unfortunately. Can't say I notice though. It certainly doesn't stop me enjoying the game, the DualShock 3 does that. :D

Comparison in "differences" shocker. Years on this is just boring now, I'm fully set in with my PS3 and there are others who are set in with their respective consoles. These articles generally serve only to provoke fanboy wars.

That being said :p ;):

Is it just me who seems to think there is a grey layer over the 360 images? Its not to say they look bad, but I'm just wondering if thats normal. I certainly never experienced that when I owned my 360.

Edit: Looking at the Modern Warfare 2 shots and the PS3 screens now look grey. Maybe my eyesight is going...

You get have a wider variety of textures but the texture quality (resolution) displayed will be limited by the graphics RAM (vram) available.

so now that we can install the games to our xbox's the blu ray format as a games delivery system (yes i know its for movies as well) isnt "that desirable" as Sony would have one beleive ?

The PS3 will never be as sharp and crisp as the Xbox. It's a hardware limitation so is impossible to get round.

Does anyone honestly give a toss any more?

Its kinda wierd...I've not seen any Vs threads in months, and we've had like 3 in succession :D

If you have both consoles get the better performing version of the games.

if you have a 360 only, Get it on 360. And enjoy

if you have a PS3 only, Get it on PS3. And enjoy

Also enjoy the exclusives of either console or both consoles.

Simples! *Meercat sound*

Texture compression is typically lossless. Take a BMP image, which is basically uncompressed, and save it as a PNG. Then try and find the differences, also note the tiny file size of the PNG in comparison to the BMP. Also it'd be madness not to compress the textures, not because of file size, but because it's typically far quicker to load compressed textures off an optical disk than uncompressed textures (CPUs fast, disk drives slow).

I only have an X360 now as there were not enough PS3 exclusives to justify it sitting there for 2.5 years doing nothing but gather dust ;)

However, PS3 capability is clearly as far as graphics are concerned a long way ahead because Bluray allows so much more data to be uncompressed. The problem is few devs are using it at all unless they are Sony devs or 3rd party Sony sponsored (like with Killzone2). You can see a massive difference in textures on PS3 exclusives vs X360 exclusives but for most multiplatform titles none are using this extra capacity so most PS3 Blurays are filled with duplicate data to fill the disc & speed up from Bluray loading times. PS3 can also uncompress on the fly those uncompressed textures using 1 entire Cell SPE so its rare to see texture popup on PS3 titles which make good use of the Cell.

By the time it matters much MS & Sony will have newer consoles with a lot more Vram & storage space anyway ;)

But the blurriness the PS3 has, seems to eliminate the jaggies the 360.

On the whole though, they really are very similar and I couldn't really care less as I have both.

Its taken time but the dev tools on the PS3 and programming experience are now going to allow companies to delve into the machines power better than before.
When companies start producing on a PS3 version and then port to X360 then again this may go in PS3 favour. Whatever is the lead design system for a title is likely to offer the best performance over a port.

Also doesnt the PS3 sales now already exceed those of X360 in Europe?

Posted these in the other thread but to me PS3 is only getting started, if we can expect the below in upcoming games!

The 360 is the lead platform on many games so will have the edge slightly, games like BP, FF13, that lead on the PS3 also have a slight edge. One other thing to consider is that with my 360 and PS3 i need two different settings on my TV even if i use both HDMI. The PS3 image seems to brighter and sharper whereas the 360 is the opposite, I have to adjust to get the "perfect" picture for each one. Its been mentioned that when they do these they do not adjust settings so depending on what its setup for, normally 360, it looks different to what i see on my TV at home.
As for saying the PS3 games dont look as good as its undepowered is truly lol worthy, for the past 2 years PS3 games have won best GFX in many a GOTY, this year with KZ2 and U2 it has left any such notion of it lacking in GFX power way behind with only jealous fanboys holding on to 360 MP games looking better to prove the 360 superior GFX power. Not going to say that at some point a 360 game will come out that looks better, but i havent seen an improvement in 360 GFX since Gears 2 and thats way over a year old and before that Gears 1 was the 360 benchmark.
Still think websites do these to generate hits and fanboy wars on their sites as in the end whatever slight gfx differences, as long as it dont ruin the gameplay, dont actually matter that much one bit.
