Hi,

I just saw Dirt is now £9.99 and would like a good racer to play on my PC, a nice Xbox controller for the PC would also go well with it :p

I just wondered if the normal Xbox360 wired controller (£17.99) is compatible with XP, or would I need a 'Windows' controller?

[Edit]
Nevermind, just found a "Microsoft XBox 360 Controller For Windows" for the same price on the same website. I'm guessing they're exactly the same thing, but I better get the 'Windows' one just in case :p

Thanks,
Craig.

They're just rebranded as the "Official Windows Xbox 360 Controller" mate, I'm pretty sure you can just plug a wired controller in and hey-presto it'll work.

Possibly need to download some drivers?

I'd double check to be 100% sure, as I haven't tried it myself.

But I'm relatively sure it works (just doing some googling now!)

Works just fine,i use both wired & wireless pads, never had any issue's at all:) That goes for xp & vista as well

Nice to know the Wireless pads are okay on Vista :)

I'll probably grab one of those dongles for my Vista machine then.

Pretty much as simple as plug and play?

Yeah, they're good to go. Guaranteed to work with any Games for Windows game aswell, I think. I use mine for the xbox wireless mic, 's very handy.

Nice to know cheers!

Didn't know the Mics worked, that's pretty groovy too.

Nice sig btw, I love CAD!

I bought a Wireless Gaming Reciever at the weekend to use my wireless 360 controller, it works great on supported games. How ever MS should be shot for not including a program to customise the buttons.. had to turn to a app called Pinnacle Game Profiler this works great though for my emulator needs!

I got the for windows version all there is is an extra driver disk for winxp/vista.

Driver disk is only really for 98/ME...

Works with plug and play drivers in XP/Vista (either that or it gets them from online, I cant remember)

But yes, they are identical to standard controllers. And also game designers seem to be adding proper support for this controller, and not just having a generic 'Gamepad' setup.

Oooo, good to hear the Xbox360 microphone works with the controller.

If, for example, I wanted to use the headset for Teamspeak/Skype would I just select Xbox controller for input, and output sound device in the program?

Thanks,
Craig.

WTF the official minimum requirement for the controller is winxp sp1 so don't think the drivers will even work on win98/me.

True it downloads the driver online but only if you have not already installed the driver and software supplied on the CD.

You'll find most stuff does just work plug and play with XP, but sometimes it is better to install the given drivers for extra functionality etc. :)

I'll probably download the latest software and drivers from the Microsoft website when it arrives to ensure full compatibility with the microphone and calibration.

I use it in ventrilo, vent speech into my ear and normal game sounds from the speakers. Took a little bit of messing about as far as I remember, but essentially yeah, I think it was just selecting the proper output device in vent.
