Hey all,

One of the reasons I got a Macbook in the first place, was because I wanted to learn about XCode and try and code a few apps for the iPhone...

I realise I need a developers license to release apps to the app store - however, if I just download XCode from the App Store, will I be able to try it out and use the iPhone simulator as normal?

Also, will I be able to transfer apps I make onto my iPhone? Or will I need a developers license for this?

I'm pretty sure you can turn your iPhone into a developer version for free.

I very nearly did it by accident by opening Xcode whilst my iPhone was plugged in!

Xcode always used to be free to download direct from Apple's website, but now it appears they've cheekily removed free access to it and stuck it on the App Store for £2.99 instead.

AFAIK the simulator will work but I'm pretty sure you won't be able to transfer developing apps onto your iPhone unless you have a licence for it first.

Being an avid Visual Studio and C# fanatic I'm finding it rather awkward to adjust to Xcode and Objective-C

You will need a developer license to try out on your phone.

Xcode 3.something is free to use, xcode 4 is a small fee OR free to 100$/year dev members.

And yes i believe that you can use the iPhone/iPad simulator but to deploy onto the device you have to be a subscribed dev member.
