XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

The demo was underwhelming for me.

It was difficult to get any feel for what the game is like to play because the tutorial took over completely. Just show me the video next time and save my bandwith imo.

The first mission was a cutscene. Did you try the 2nd mission?

Does anyone know if steam will be letting us Pre-download the files before the 12th?
I really hope so, as I've been stung before by games being locked late into release day, meaning generally I don't get to play that day due to my horrendous connection speeds :(

Ok so my better half has pre-ordered this for me as its my birthday on the 9th :)

God I remember some of the Alien turns taking 45 mins on terror sites or bases on my Amiga 500.

Some reason I thought this was out on tuesday, but i just checked steam and its friday. Also didn't realise it had multiplayer until recently and that looks rather awesome watched some of the live stream earlier and its got me super hyped now.

Haha, I feel your pain. Used to play Battle Isle 2 on a 486 SX 25. The computer turns could last minutes, but it felt like days :p

Shame they didn't get someone more interesting to play, this is the second time I've watched this community manager guy play and he's so boring and slow when playing. Also that strat of archangel sniper is super boring, there should be some objectives on the map to make people move forward off their spawn points in multiplayer.

Ahhh yeah, I used to have that! There was also another one from the 90s that had space marines v aliens, turn based but had a great cinematic over the shoulder camera view point when someone or something moved. I can't rember what it was called, but I loved it :D

Pre-load is active now - getting ~3MB/s on my 24mbps Wimax connection.
12.4GB

Yay cheers for the heads up. Just cloned and installed my 256gb ssd so plenty of space now. And along comes something to fill it! Can see me needing a 512 in the not too distant future lol

Edit: downloading at 12.7 MB/s
