Got my XDA Orbit coming tomorrow (hopefully!!).

Heard LOADS of people saying that the first thing to do is turn OFF the function to download stuff on GPRS by setting a password.

Is this easy to do? Any instructions on how to do it so I have zero (£0) GPRS charges?

I just ordered one of these as well. Should be arriving tomorrow or the day after.

Unfortunately its DHL and they seem to like delivering my stuff when I am either asleep or in the toilet. :D

Yeah, mine randomly connect to GPRS, well not randomly but sometimes i forget to disconnect. Apart from that its a cracking little device.

Phone now arrived but would really appreciate some assistance on how to turn off GPRS.

I "think" I've done it. If I go to "Connections", and select GPRS Settings, it's asking me what type of authentication to use (PAP or CHAP), but I'm sure I keep seeing the "G" appear at the top of the screen.

surely it doesnt matter if it keeps connecting as you should only get charged if data is being shifted?

the G in the box is to show there is a GPRS signal. There there is a little g with two arrows then its connected.

My Orbit arrived this morning. :)

Spent most of the day getting the wifi and internet connections set up but now its working I am really pleased.

Looks like its going to be a really good phone.

I have had one of these for the past couple of weeks and it's a cracking little device.

Mine doesn't seem to connect to GPRS much at all unless I ask it too so either by opening the browser or send/receive my email... I wouldn't worry too much about it doing this randomly as you really have to tell it to. Just make sure when you have been using it to turn it off afterwards. The only thing it has ever seemed to try and download (and it prompts first so can't do it automatically) is the FastGPS update. You get one about every 3 days and it's so your COPilot can find it's current position faster. I don't generally connect via GPRS though unless really need to as I have wireless at work and at home and tend to find hotspots if I have a lot of email I need to check so wifi is my preference. Other than that the GPRS charges haven't broken my accounts allowances yet.

THe CoPilot I find great to. Have used it on several journeys and I've been very impressed with it. It's not quite a TomTom but I do think it's very good for what it is. Occasionally it can be a little slow but I have never missed a turning because of it. Considering this was all free I'm very impressed.

Battery life seems excellent too providing you're not sat on the internet all day or playing Bubble breaker constantly (yes I still do!). Make sure you fully charge and discharge a number of times to get maximum. I charged and then let it drain all the way about 4 times before I noticed that it got to it's maximum - I now get 2-3 days as a average with fair usage.

All in all I'm so chuffed with this little device. I was a little dubious as it has replaced my normal phone and is now my soul phone/pda but it's proving itself to be very good.
