XDA Orbit broken, help!

I have an XDA Orbit on contract with O2. A couple of days ago the touchscreen packed in, O2 will replace the phone for free but that leaves me with the problem of doing a full backup so I can restore everything on my replacement. Also, it is very important that I send the old phone off to O2 completely wiped, as I don't want them getting hold of any data that it still contains. But without being able to even type in my PIN on the XDA I don't know where to begin!

Please can anyone advise on the best coarse of action?

There is some software for your PC that lets you control the phone from the PC. I'll see if I can find it..

Edit: I've just thought, you'd never be able to install it I don't think?
