xDSL Line Voltage

Good day all.

I did not want to hijack the BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion thread and pull it off-topic.

I am still having on going problems with my xDSL connection, line drops, slow resyncing, etc.

On normal dry days I have very little issues, but if it's been rain, or damp air for more then a day, my internet connection becomes very unstable.

I know the fault is not with my own hardware, as I have tried 3 other routers, micro filters, etc.

And the problems only happen with changes in the weather.

Now each time I have spoken to my ISP (PlusNet), they run a line test but can't find any problems, but can clearly see my router disconnecting, but can not advice any more on this.

They have said I can request BT to come out and look over the line, but if no fault is found I will have a £120 fee to pay.

And now to my related a question regarding line voltage, as I have see the subject pop up a few times in BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion tread, that if the line voltage is below 50v there is a fault and BT will track down the problem and replace cables where needed.

Is this still the case with xDSL as well as FTTx, I ask as right now the line voltage at my BT master socket is 49.92vdc, I have yet to test the voltage when I am having issues with my internet connection.

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards.

POTS line voltage isn't like the dB levels people talk about with regards to cable connections. 49.92v is close enough to 50v that there is no chance of that causing a problem. You've probably got an issue where moisture is getting into a junction box or the cabinet itself.

Do you have a landline phone? When the DSL drops what's the quality of the line like? You will have a much easier time reporting a voice noise fault to BT than trying to explain how it's affecting your broadband.
