We have recently updated our citrix client that is available for download from the web interface to the new citrix receiver. This was done due to compatibility problems with a specific set of software that required this new version. But since then we ran in to a problem that required a server reboot to fix it and after a bit of research it appears that it is a known issue that is fixed by a hotfix. There has been no windows updates or xenapp hotfixes applied to the xenapp server since it was created in 2010.

I would like to apply the updates. Has anyone else applied updates as explained above and found that they can cause problems with the xenapp configuration or applications that are in use by citrix? I was asked if i think i should test compatibility in a test environment. We use some bespoke corporate software in our xenapp server.

Will it have the potential to cause problems?
How long will it take to install 2008 r2 sp1 and hotfix rollup etc.

Will I have to put the xenapp server in to maintenance mode or similar?

Sorry to dig up a slightly old thread :)

groen, you'll need users off the server as almost all XenApp patches require a reboot afterwards. user/install mode is recommended, but not always necessary with MSI's, I find..

If you have a look towards the bottom of the page on Citrix.com where you get the patch, there's normally uninstall information. I've never had a patch shaft a server, only rollups! Never b0rked apps though.

Plus, since you're talking XenApp6, chances are any issues with it are known about by now so have a quick search on the web for the patch name and see if anything turns up.
