As long as we can keep 80+ posts per page and the ability to disable sigs and avatars I'm fine. So many boards I visit cap out at 20 post per page with massive avatars you can't turn off :p
 
Well I hope we don't go down the YouTube route. As you are all aware, you can thumb up a comment but you can not thumb down a comment. What a stupid system, it just allows trolls an equal playing field. The old YT system was way better as you could instantly see a troll comment as it was in Red and of course, a negative number.

They would essentially be used as the same thing.

People don't just downvote troll posts though, the downvote unpopular but valid posts.

Yes you are right. However the distinction is irrelevant, any post that has a lot of down votes is almost exclusively not worth reading or replying to irrespective of the fact that it may be a troll post or offensive or simply incorrect. With the current YT system I sometimes find myself responding to troll posts that I had assumed were legit.

My experience of Reddit is evidence that your suggestion is simply incorrect. There are plenty of negative posts that are both factually correct and insightful but are downvotes for a variety of reasons.
 
up/down votes don't work. Ever. There isn't a single instance of any public medium where that system works, anywhere. Karma whores, brigading, echo chambers, etc. all thrive and ruin the very principle of such systems.

Well that is your experience of Reddit. I was relaying my experience of YouTube, NOT Reddit, and as such is correct. I don't ever use Reddit, so can not empirically provide accurate data.

But if it's true then surely it's not an insult? :p I wouldn't mind a like button, if there is a post that you agree with then it's better to like it than to just have another post with it quoted and 'this'.
