Hi.
Ive found a Xeon processsor in the cupboard at work, and was wondering if its any good.

Its got the following written on it:
3000DP/2M/800
SL7ZF

Does anyone know much about it? The Intel site is relativly sparce, only speccing it as being 3Ghz, 2Mb Cache & 800Mhz fsb, using socket 604.
Is it MP capable? Is it hyperthreaded?

Thanks in advance all. :)

Yes, it's SMP compatible, and Hyperthreaded too. Unless you can get a mobo and alll *** trimming to fit it relitively cheap, it might be better to either leave it there or sell on Ebay. ;)

If its SMP capable, it might be worth using in a s604 mobo for a mini server we're building soon.
Do you have a link to the details on the processor?

Depends on how much you're looking to pay to build the server. S604 boards are not that cheap, you will need to make sure you have a compliant PSU, ram etc...

It is compatible with both. that Xeon is a 2 way SMP chip, and all Xeons of that type have HT functionality.

I've got a server and a workstation each with two of them in, so I'll vouch for them. :)

Im wondering what i should do with it tbh.
Should i buy a mobo and some memory for it and use it as my work workstation? Something else? Or just leave it in the cupboard?

Making a workstation with it now is probably not worth it. You'll see better performance off a basic Core2Duo

Flog the Xeon on an auction site or MM here then, as people that have a Xeon workstation or server will snap up a second cpu for the right price. ;)
