So with all the the talk of the Q6600 etc... how's about one of these instead?

Intel Xeon Quad Core X3210 2.13GHz LGA775 FSB1066 8Mb Retail

some benchmarks that are appropriate to my needs, notice that it's not OC'd whilst the Q6600 is :-

It's not far from being at the top of the table. Would this fit my current board "P5W DH deluxe" being a LGA775 slot? The price I've seen it for is £158.62 Including VAT...

Afaik the X3210s are all the B3 stepping. If they are I definetly would not buy one for that price.
Get a q6600 instead, you can get a much cooler G0 stepping for about the same price.

They both perform the same clock for clock, and of course the q6600 is faster at stock.

Thanks guys, I always thought XEONs were better but with the fast movement of chips yet again I guess they weren't at the top of the game for long. After looking at those benchmarks I noticed the X3210 was actually overclocked (I must have been tired)!

Off topic, but Datamonkey, do you frequent Smokey Joes at all? ;o)
