Two of our folders from across the pond (Dunc and BillytheImpailer) are planning a Xeon slug-out starting on Friday. This involves setting up accounts specifically for this event and as such requires new usernames (folding for team 10, of course).

Thread Here

I would suggest we, the onlookers, should help these two sluggers find appropriate fighting names.
Please post your suggestions in here so that we don't clutter up their battle thread.

My suggestions:

Dunc - The Alabama Slamma
BillytheImpailer - The Ohio Psycho
:D
Billy suggested in the battle thread that Rich should choose and announce the names in this weeks weekly news - sounds good to me.

Stan :)

hehe sounds like fun - think you've started the stakes off pretty high with those two though  :D

well I don't mind choosing - as an incentive I'll offer a week of my best cruncher (don't get too excited, it's not much but the best i've got) to the person who comes up with the best names
if it's split between two people then i'll make sure you both get at least half a week (knowing my luck i'll end up with two massive WUs taking 5 days a piece :p)

may the fun commence!!! :D

How about

Dunc - The Selma Slammer
BTI - The Cleveland Clawer

or

Dunc - The BTI Basher
BTI - The Dunc Destroyer
(possibly switch these round)

congrats Stan, I said you'd set the standard very high with those two beauties  :D

The Alabama Slamma vs. The Ohio Psycho

I like it! :)
edit: switching the cruncher over now, hope that's ok with you

Alright Dunc, you may begin the crunchification at noon eastern. :D I will my box up (in some form) by evening at the latest.

Let's DO it!

Noon it is then. I am loaded and ready to go.

Have they started.. If yes then i would have expected at least one of them to have dumped a WU by now. Unless they are very "very" lucky and got a few biggies.

Fly Xeons, fly..

It's odd that they still haven't returned anything! Maybe they got big WUs, but I doubt it... they won't have picked up the big Double Gromacs as they're out of general circulation and restricted to beta testers at present.

Yeah, it was that second one  ...

Anyway, I finally got it working again thanks to spare hard disk number 5 (Maxtor, 13.3 GiB, eleventy-one bajillion KiB cache). I formatted it ext3 and chucked Mandrake on it in about 10 minutes so now I'm crunching.

In the picture you can see Simon's (my former P3 machine) monitor working hard displaying that unix command prompt. The duct tape racing stripes are visible and we all know that that allows me to lower my RAM latencies by one ms across the board. In case you were wondering, Simon used to sit on my desk next to my laptop, Garfunkel. They were a wonderful pair and always worked in harmony. Garfunkel was never the same after Simon died...

It's going fairly well as of now but, depending on my access to machine time this weekend, it could get better. ;)
