Over the weekend i was looking at a few used estates and finally a 2013 XF sportbrake 3.0L V6 S diesel Portfolio with 75k on the clock, turned up for sale locally at the main dealers so i had a look on Friday afternoon. Well i have become very smitten with the car, was very pleased with it on a test drive. Got back to the deanship and the salesman asked if i wanted some numbers on a finance deal. The deal came back and i was very pleased the monthly cost. I didn't agree anything there and then i wanted to have a night to think about it also to talk it over with the wife.
On Saturday we went to look at a Passat as the wife said its the sensible choice and then i took the family to look at the XF as i wanted everyone to be happy with it. We had decided that we liked it and i would go back in the morning to try sort out a deal.
I missed the call form the dealership asking for me to call them back in the morning, half expecting for them to inform that the car had just been sold what would have been my luck. Turned out there had been a massive error on their behalf the finance offer had been without any interest..... and they then updated the finale offer...... I am now wondering if i had agreed to buy it at the first point, if they would have had to honoured the first one?
Anyone on here had one, what has your experience been like with the car and dealing with Jaguar in general?

I’ve had two XF’s, a MY10 and a MY13 so not the newest shape but the two before it, the one you’re looking at.

Jaguar, in terms of customer service, are second to none imo. They were always understanding of the issues, put me in two different F-Types for a few days at a time just because I asked, always had the friendliest staff and just generally made visiting the dealer a pleasure.

However, that’s where it finished for me. The cars themselves, while good when they are working, are just full of electrical issues. My first car I owned for 18 months, it was in the dealership about 9 times with various issues.
The second car I owned less than a year as I got sick of the problems. It was in at a minimum, once a month and they just either made the problem worse or caused another one.

I always loved the theatre of those cars, the rotating vents and the rising gear selector. Just so good and I never got bored of it. When the cars drove well, the 3 litre engine was superb, and the gearbox was equally as good. But it was ruined by the problems that I had.

The infotainment system in that model you’re looking at it ok, it’s pretty responsive but very limited in terms of features. The sat nav is average, it always got me to my destination but it’s lacking some of the features that BMW/Audi/Merc have that mean it’s left wanting at times.

At a minimum, you want the rear parking camera and the improved sound system. The saloon was always a pain to park, not helped by how early the sensors would tell you you’re about to hit something, and the basic audio system is absolutely gutless.

Anything else, let me know and i’ll see if I can help

The one i have been looking at has the meridian sound system that sounded good, had a parking camera with front and rear sensors. I have found a lot of mixed reviews from owners, some saying their car a been extremely reliable and others saying similar to you that they have electrical issues. I know what you mean about the theatre of it all, my daughter absolutely loved it.

They do seem to have electrical issues, I’ve a neighbour with one (13plate saloon) and the rear side lights won’t switch off(!) he bought it used and only noticed a few weeks later, private sale, no comeback etc, thus far it’s not flattering the battery (LED maybe?) but he’s had a few people look at it and can’t find the cause.

Workmate has another one, 12 plate which randomly opens its boot, especially when traveling at speed! :D

Lovely things but as with a few JLR products I’ve had experience of, not the best in terms of build quality/reliability imo.

If you get one, make sure it’s got a good warranty backing it up.

More reliability issues.....

Think i will have to get a very good warranty on one. Maybe i should go with as my wife said the sensible choice of a Passat.

If you’re getting it from a Jag dealership, they should give a 2 year approved used warranty with it. Although that might have changed recently, or because of the mileage on the car you’re looking at

Ive had a 09 XF 3.0dS Portfolio and a 2010 XJ 3.0d Portfolio and they were both great cars with no issues of note. I loved both cars but the XJ especially so. I wouldnt drive cars in these segments without a warranty as they can throw up large bills whatever the marque.

Traded the XJ for a 2015 BMW 640d M Sport Gran Coupe and regretted it shortly after as I realised Im not a fan of BMWs at all and the wife hated it too.

is that the same category though ? ...indeed, has the inflames discarded the 5 series touring , which would be the same category

Eventually it will reach an age where nothing works except the engine and steering wheel :p

It's pot luck really once they get to have any kind of age / mileage. I've had 4 JLR products that have been relatively trouble free, and an Audi which was a complete nightmare. Equally, there are many people who've had the opposite experience to me. In terms of buying a relatively new premium marque car, I'd want a manufacturers warranty if I was spending a decent sum of money as you hear horror stories from all the major manufacturers.

That doesn't seem to effect used values much (unless it's something serious like on the old V8 Audi S4s). There are plenty of nutters who will buy out of warranty Audis and Range Rovers without even doing their homework. They are fashion items afterall.

I think it does tbh. Look at the value of a 2008 Range Rover Vogue vs a 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser. The LC is far more expensive, despite being slower, less luxurious and nowhere near as good looking or fashionable. The reason being that most people know that if they buy an old RR, it's probably going to cost a lot to run, whereas the LC should be trouble free.

I wasnt advising on category but just making the point Ive had two Jaguar cars which were pretty much fault free and which I thought were great cars, so much so I preferred it to an equally expensive BMW which many would say is a superior car

I bet the extended warranty isn't half as good as Toyota's either. Which is quite cheap and comes with loads of extras (like free AA European breakdown cover, free MOTs, free MOT repairs, loan car and hotel expenses paid for). They just know it's rarely going to be used lol

... so the XF will be a sidestep, from a 650I .... is that much more than 6 years old ?

The jag always looks overweight/ponderous compared to a 5 series touring , but, seems both are ~1800kg.
