XFi Extreme Music sound issue

Hi i have a creative XFi Extreme Music (OEM version) card in my system and im experencing some issue's with it
When using WMP and adjusting the volume on my Creative Inspire P5800 speakers the sound goes extremly loud and then eventually drops to the required volume.It makes no difference wether im increasing the volume or decreasing the volume.
ive tested the speaker system with the aux input and my MP3 player and dont get the same phneomnon it rasies and lowers normally so id say the speaker system is ok
another issue i aslo seem to get is when the speakers are switched on after a while wilst in windows i get a high pitched sqeaul from my speakers resulting in me turning them off the only way to resolve it seems to be to restart win xp which sorts it
there does not seem to be any patteren in how long the system is on for before the squeal appears
i have removed all drivers and reloded them still it appears
ive even changed the pci slot where the card is installed and still i get the same issue.

is there a new set of drivers for this card that is not on creatives website as i have tried those or is my card goosed.

it could be the SVM option, under the creative audio console, try turning it off, it is on by default. It normalises the volume so loud and quiet parts have less difference between them but on mine it makes the volume jumpy, it sounds much better when it is off. if that isnt the cause, my only other guess is that there is a voltage spike or something, i think that is quite common on the xfi range. The squeeling is a known complaint. try googling "xfi squeel of death" or something similar. I don't think there is a fix, mine gets it and the only thing that fixes it is a reboot or resetting the audio console to defaults. You could RMA the card, but i think the problem is very common.

Sorted i think

I removed the xfi and installed the drivers for my onboard sound and tested the speakers on there, i got the same sound issue of the sound exagerating when using the volume control on the remote.
i reset all my speakers and openned up the volume control and cleaned out some junk there then retested with onboard sound no more volume issue
ive turned onboard sound off and re installed the XFi and again the volume issue seems to be resolved just hope the Sqeaul of death has also been resolved

Update

XFi Squeal of death back with vengance
Back to onboard sound (not as good as XFi when it works)
however the volume prob did not reappear.
Will have to contact Creative and see if they will RMA the card for me.
