what gives? everything is plugged in, when i go into control panel to set the recording device its detected the microphone yet the bar next to it does nothing, it detects no sound!

funny thing is that it did work! at one point but i did a fresh install as something went wrong in an install. i just want to know if there was a fix

Funnily enough, mine worked on XP with the drivers of the disc, however on Vista the disc drivers don't work and the downloaded ones of Creative's website seem rather crap.

Have you guys set the mic to the 'Default Device' in the Recording Devices menu?

This should cure all of your woes...

Right Click your taskbar sound icon > Recording Devices > Highlight XFi Mic Input and click Set to Default... and taa daa...

I've had same issue on Vista 64 Ultimate / XFi for a few months as well, mainly on Skype. Usually, will start a call and I sound like a drowning dalek until I fiddle about with the sound and set mic as default as mentioned. Also have to do this within Skype as well and swap between Xfi Mike and Win default device on input. Trouble is it resets itself again (including mike gain / volume) if I drop the call and have to start all over!

Although saying that Skype has been a lot better since I moved it to a separate HD, for some bizarre reason.
