Xfi problems on vista...

Hi all,

Basically I have slowly solved all of my vista problems, only one remains and its my sound card.

Its a creative xfi xtreme music., Whenever I play music there is a regular squeaking noise, almost as its a CD sticking, but this occurs all the time with perfect MP3 files.

Then every now and again it will pop loudly and crackle and mangle the music completely (you know like those dodgy mp3s you get that play for a while and then break your ears with horrible noises) yet the music that it is playing is perfect. Often sound will disappear for a long while after this happens.

I was originally using the drivers included in vista, then I used the creative beta for several months and I have just installed the new ones (5th November) and there has been no change.

The card itself is installed in the closest slot to the core of the PC (I've heard this can cause some distortion but I had the card for over a year on XP and it worked like a dream).

I really am fed up of this as I just cant listen to music or play dvds on vista with it, I am so close to throwing the card in the bin!

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I had the same problem with my XFI Fatal1ty the only way i have found too make it work is the hard way and that is to reinstall vista and install all the 35 vista updates. Or what ever it is up too now 1st before installing the card and then just install the nov 5th drivers and if that don't work you know it is the card or the motherboard.

I was hoping to avoid reinstalling vista really, I wont really have the time to do it for a few weeks yet anyway, but even so its something I was hoping to avoid altogether.

I suppose in the mean time I could take the sound card out and try the onboard sound, but that will meain calls to microsoft as last time I had that plan they deactivated my copy of windows. I couldnt be bothered so i just reinstalled the card and ran system restore.

So I soppose maybe I should try the onboard and if thats ok then stay with that until I'm able to reinstall windows, if that doesnt work, then I have problems!
