I'm curious what the difference in sound quality is between..

Not after any thrills really. The first one sounds a bargain.

For MP3s - nothing

For gaming - well forget the first one as it dosent support EAX hardware accelleration - in short the exreme audio is pants

Onboard audio is perfectly fine if you want no frills
