Xfire 7870XT and 280X any point?

recently bought a 4k monitor with freesync and looking to beef up on the GPU front. seen a lot of cheap 280X's around and wondering if there's any point at all? how much will the 7870xt restrict it? will it keep me stuck on 2GB of ram and just make 4k gaming a waste of time? very tempted to just get a single 390 or 390x and possibly xfireing one of those depending on performance needs in the future

anyone had any experience running that kind of set up?

A 390 would best suit in your position with a view to Xfire in the near future.

EDIT: I'd also upgrade that Cpu if you do decide to go down the multi-card route.

thats kinda my thinking. also been on the lookout for any 2nd hand 290x that had the 8GB but had no luck. As for the cpu no worries there, I have an 8350 but my sigs just a bit out of date

Just bare in mind though it's a triple slot card.

You'll probably get the performance of cf 7870xt, wasting the wider bus and extra ram of the 280x.
