I've very recently switched from 2 HIS 7950 @ 7970 to a Gigabyte 970 G1. Even though the 970 is only at stock it feels smoother than the 7950s. I know it terms of total power the 970 is down but gaming feels smoother on it, it draws a lot less power, makes a lot less noise and is cooler. If I OC the 970 I am sure I can close the gap a bit. My main reason for going single was that the last two games I played (Shadow of Mordor and Far Cry 4) had awful support for crossfire on launch and I was effectively down to 1 card. I either waited for a patch and couldn't enjoy the game I paid release price for or I gamed on one card while the other sat dormant. I've always used AMD for the last 10 years (9700>X800XL>X1900XT>3870XT>4890XT>7850> 2 x 7950) but decided I was going to try NVIDIA after all the hype the 970 got. I've got a XFX 290 DD in the HTPC which is decent enough but I prefer the 970.

Keep what you have for a while longer until so solid information regards amd's next cards are announced. If anything it will drop the price of the current nvidia offerings.
