So with all the latest price cuts going xfire seems a very good option but how are those drivers??
And is there any gain going 7990 over 2 x 7970??
I was going to go with just the one 780 but surley the above will give me more fps, this will be for a 2560 x 1440 monitor.

They're great tbh. If you used vsync a lot before then not much has changed in terms of smoothness etc, it was always pretty smooth, though not in all titles. The titles that did have some stutter without vsync are now smoother than my rusty sheriffs badge after a brazilian. The biggest change ive found is with low fps, 30-40 fps now feels smooth where as before that wasn't always the case. In some titles ive now found myself running stock settings because the higher fps now feels the same as lower fps.

At 1440p id recommend 7950x2 as a minimum. I have only average clocking cards but even i can run everything maxed out. Crysis 3 i need to lower AA, but aside from that nothing brings these cards to their knees. Not bad for £360 worth of gpu.

Thx matt, thats very helpful. Only 1 game i'm interested in is of course battlefield, how's your minimums at that res??

Oh and very good indeed for £360 :D

i7 [email protected]
1440p Ultra preset x4 AA, FOV 82.

939/1302 - Firestorm 64 man

Min, Max, Avg
65, 135, 93.941

1100/1500 - Firestorm 64 man

Min, Max, Avg
70, 156, 105.919

Even with my i7 @4.8ghz i am getting slightly bottlenecked at times with gpu usage dropping into the 80-90% region when looking across the whole map. Had to pick firestorm as caspian servers with free slots weren't available at the time.

Thx matt for doing this, those mins look very good. So with a haswell i7 it would need to run at 4.4GHz to get similar results???

Any microstutter at all??

Haswell would be better i expect. 4.4-4.6ghz on a haswell will probably be faster than my 4.8ghz comfortably. Part of the bottleneck comes with the bf3 engine, its optimization is not that great. Can't wait to see what AMD can do with bf4. If crysis 3 cpu optimization is anything to go by, we should get better performance from our i7's i reckon.

No microstutter.

7970 xfire user here playing at 1400p, im still on 13.5 betas with no problems

With my 7970 @1250/1823 i used to be able to play 1440p full Ultra with x2 AA and motion blur off quite nicely. Though fps would dip below 50 at times when there was a massive explosion or what not.

last time I xfired was with two x1950 pro's,was stuttering like crazy haha

might xfire my 7850's when I get time tho just to see what its like

Said it before but Matts right dude. This always turns into a "my single card is magic and runs 1400p all by itself" argument but to benefit from all the eye candy you need dual cards really. Now,that being said I have just made the jump from crossfire 7970s to a single 780 whilst I wait a couple of weeks to pick up a second card. My 2 7970s were getting 11000 in vantage firestrike and my best with a single 780 is 9600. The games I have tried all run on a single 780,some a lot better than I thought with the card clocked @1200mhz/7ghz even on max settings. I dont use aa at all most of the time at this res unless I really feel I need to. To make myself clear though I still feel 2 cards are needed as I like my fps to be around the 60fps mark all the time with everything turned up I just wanted to let you know what my experience was like.
