Xfire memory usage

I always understood with xfire that you still only had the max memory in use of 1 card, eg 2x3gb still only gives 3gb VRAM to use.

Just wondering why in a couple of games i've tested so far the osd is showing 3.5-4gb in use (showing against the first card)?

Yes i would also like to know this, in Far Cry 3 my crossfire 7850 shows up 2.7GB usage.

I believe the second card does use a small portion of memory when some instructions get sent to it from the Master Card, as a slight buffer, but it only uses a very small proportion of its overall memory.

Each card uses it's own gpu/memory to render alternative frames(usually) in CrossFire.

The way memory usage is reported on AMD, both cards are combined, so you half the total in the osd and that's what each card is using.
