Hi everyone, i am looking to upgrade my GFX card to a 4870 and i have kind of narrowed my choice down to these xxx xfx models as they have a higher default clcok and memory speed then the others in the same price zone.

What i am wondering though is it worth spending an extra £15 on the 1 gig version over the standard 512MB version?? I know all you speed demons will always say bigger is better but will it realisticalyl make any difference at all?

I would like to play games in 1600 X 1200 res as thats my default monitor res, i only really play FPS (bf2, tf2, cod) plus a few RTS (mostly C&C variants)

I know this is a top end card but money is a bit tight these days so i don't want to sspend £15 extra just for the sake of it, only if i will see a difference in framerate. Thanks in advance for any replys.

In most games there is little or no difference, but some games (ie Far Cry 2, Grid) like extra memory. Personally i would stretch and buy 1 GB version - it is more futureproof.

Thanks for all your replys so far, i am swinging towards the 1GB version but it will mean waiting an extra week or 2 so i don't go overdrawn if i spend an extra £15

I don't suppose anyone has any direct comparison results between 512 and 1024 version of the same cards in real world tests (not 3dmarks or similar) even for different brands.

you will only notice a difference between 512mb and 1gb version in higher resolutions like 1080p and above or in very memory intensive games like gta 4.
