Hey guys,

Im going to overclock my card.

What have you guys had stable on ur systems and what voltages etc and what kind of temps are reasonable.

Im hopeing to maybe up it by 100mhz on the core n mem maybe a little more.

I hear people getting 1000 on the core if lucky with a 1.25 or so core volt setting.

Just need some input before i tinker.

830/1200 stable at 1.087V
900/1200 stable at 1.15V

I keep the fan profile so the temps don't go above 75*C when gaming. I'm happy with them hitting this value though as I can barely hear the fan when playing games.

Reference cooler set to 40% at 75*C, keeps it cool enough and quiet. Haven't flashed the BIOS, using unlocked overclocking via MSI Afterburner 1.6.0, also 2D/3D profiles and fan profile.

Lol but it doesnt seem to be changing the overclocks.... which is kind of pointless.

Every time i change the overclock in msi if i click apply it just sets it back to stock in the sliders.

Doesnt even apply it.

The profiles dont save the clocks i put on the sliders.

It saves stock clocks.

So and not the ones ive put in....

So when i select the profile it just puts the stock clocks on.....

Whats a safe voltage for a 5850? I can take my HIS 5850 to 900 core at 1.18 stable in gpu tool (1min30secs), just woundering if its too much juice. Allso cant get MSI afterburner to recognise 2d/3d pofiles.

With profile 1 set it (2d) i goes down to 157/300 and 21% fan speed which is great. But when i lauch a game it wont go to the 3d clocks 900/1000 40%.

It seems i can only raise it to the MAX of 775 which is what ATI over drive is locked too.

So msi will only allow those clocks and the same with core memory.

Wtf how do i unlock it.. -_-

Got to your MSI afterburner folder and if you havnt allready, open MSIAfterburner CFG with note bad and change EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 0 to EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1. Then test you clocks, click apply, then save to a profile and it should stick.

Access denied.. wtf.... Im admin and it wontallow me to change my own config file now.

Lol never mind i had to actualy run notepad as administrator to save it lol.

I wouldn't run OCCT to test the clocks. Furmark is also quite a pointless solution, hours of gaming and benchmarks are what stress tests the cards!

You know what i liked more was being able to have the clocks stay as they are when caming or needed in windows.

And then revert back to idle 157/300

But with the 10.7 drivers it doesnt.

so id have to set 2d and 2d clocks differently right Krugz? Ive not used Msi before.

Well, you have to set default clocks and save them as profile 1. In order to do that, you reset the clocks, apply them, click on number "1" and then on "save". Then you change the clocks to whatever your stable overclock is suppose to be, apply it, save as profile 2. Go to 2D/3D profiles now, set the default as 2D and the overclock as 3D. OK and you're good to go.

if its the v2 XFX - with the fan in the middle, then it won't budge past 775 without a bios flash.

I've got 2 of them, and neither go further than 775 / 1200 ( ? )

I have a XFX black edition 5850 (Only because it was the same price)
Clocked at.. 1000/1250 at 1.262V
Running stock cooling, Loud but i game with Headphones on so no big deal for me.
