xfx 5870 vs 6870

5870 is eol, older tech. Don't forget the 6870 is a mid range card - well upper end of mid; the 5870 is still AMD's current top end single gpu offering.

A lot of us here are facing this same quandry.
Personally I would jump on the 5870. Much better card, had its issues cleaned out, and a rival for the GTX 480. BUT I'm not buying a rig until January so I'm going to have to miss out on this one.

Its not though is it.

We benched the 5870 against the 6870 and they were on par mostly. The 5870 beats the 6870 in some games while losing in others.

Its not that much better and the improvements they have made are worth buying into the current GEN

hmm i see this in a lot of places :D
it definitely depends on what games are being used. i usually play the latest games and like to get them to run on the highest settings i can ie. the dx11 features. i currently have a 5770 that can max everything i've played on it (except metro 2033) at a reasonable 25-30fps so i have chance for an upgrade at the moment (selling some old pc parts to a mate who wants me to build him a new rig) and i get 200 quid from that hence the 5/6870.
i see that the 5870 seems to be raw performance while the 6870 has some extra features, but what will perform better in newer/future games?

plus would you say that the turbo boost/BE versions are worth going for for the extra tenner? or would a good OC be just as good?

I'm running my 6870@ 975/1150 and have 5870 performance. They run cooler quieter and use less power. The scale better in xfire and have D.P 1.2

The support will only grow in the driver department and we will see improved gains on the new gen cards.

If the gap was Bigger then I would say 5870 but its not so I won't :p
