Hello

ok so ii got a xfx radeon 5870 to crossfire with my other 5870. im not majorly experienced with pc building but my other 5870 (saphire) went in both pcie slots fine, just slid in. ( i changed slots at 1 point when i was troubleshooting)

This 1 however seems like it hits the back of the case too early and still needs to go another couple of milimiletres towards the back of the case to go in, the screw holes line up where you secure it, its right up against the back, the ports are sticking out the back like they should be yet its still a few milimetres from going on the pcie slot, doesnt seem to be hitting anything to not make it go in. anyone else had this issue? thanks

cant get pics at the mo, gues sill revive this thread later., its like the mobo needs to be further away from the case edge to meet the card to the slot.

edit ah so it might be that with the first gfx card will have tightened things up to an extent where it shifts the mobo a few milimetres over, so if i take out the first gfx card before installing the second that might work, but then when i come to put the old 1 back in i will have the same problem!! doeds this make sense?

Had same problem with my cards and tj07. Get a friend to push the motherboard in towards the back of case then tighten all the mobo screws so the mobo stays there.

ah ok thanks looks like thats the case, my previous theory, didnt work, did it happen to all your cards? or just a particlar brand/model?

my soundcard and my graphics card had the same problems. As time passed, my mobo adjusted to its new place and cards got easier to put in.

ok so someone just pushed the mobo towards the front (optical drive end) while you tightened the screws? how'd he manage to push it? doesnt look like theres allot of room to push from the other end!

Oh, for me a firend pushed it to the back of the case - towards the pcie slots. Maybe you could try carefully "forcing" the card in then pushing the mobo to line up with the standoffs and screwing it in.

Failing that, get a pair of pliers and just adjust the bottom of the pcie bits on the graphics card

it wont go in by force cos it doesnt line up at all, i guess i could take the mobo out and put both cards in with it outside of the case, and then see if it lines up. i dont have fgull use of both my hands so i was hoping this would go smoothly, even screwing a card down is a major chore (though i think im getin better at it) ive just pluged this thing back in and im surprised it sill works after the amount of screws i droped trying to replace the orginal gfx card heheh

What i meant is unscrew the mobo but leave the standoffs on then get it to a position where the cards are fitting in your case and mobo. Then you can line up the mobo holes with the standoffs (this is where a friend comes in) and screw the mobo in as tightly as possible.

Try the pliers first

hmm dont think the pliers will work cos the problem is the metal bit with the dvi outs on hitting the back of the case too early. if i put the gfx cards on withut screwing it in the mobo am i in danger of crushing something importaint undernieth the mobo with the standoffs?

Motherboards are held in with usually 9 screws. For the problem you are having it's best to unscrew partially all 9 screws so that the motherboard has free movement, but the screws are still partially in.

You can then fit the graphics card by pushing it normally and using a finger to move the motherboard to a position where it will fit.

Then tighten up the 9 screws again.

ROFL that has to be a joke by them, no 2 people could be that dumb surely?

Anyway to the OP - try pushing the mobo back. My gfx card was the same, but was not completely out of line, I had to sort of force the screw in to hold it down.

You could always just cut some of the case to make a new gap and then drill a new hole for the screw.

managed to get the thing in, i loosened the mobo screws didnt go in first slot still but went in second slot and i moved my original card back to the first slot.
