XFX 6600 Fan Noise

Hello,

Friend kindly gave me a XFX 6600 DDR2 model with the overclocked core from factory. I had a Gigabyte 6600GT before but require 2 x DVI so this card is more suitable in that respect as the other card had 1 x DVI and 1 x VGA.

With the Gigabyte card I could knock the fan speed down with Rivatuner.

I cannot do this with this XFX card. I have tried that Gainward app but that's not working either.

I have been Googling for an hour or so and cannot find any real info.

Can anybody here help at all or offer any advice?

It may just be lacking the fan control hardware, some cards do

Are you able to read the GPU temps?

Yes the GPU is idiling at desktop around 40-42deg.

Just a thought, I have a PCI blanking plate with a fan control knob on.

If i wired this in series to the fan wire (that connects straight to the gfx card) would I be able to tun the gfx fan down at all?
