XFX 6800GS extreme vs Powercolour X850XT

Last call for this - I'm looking to buy later tonight or tomorrow night.

In the boards opinion - which is the best to buy now - AGP, for a run of around 1/2 years?

Both are less than £200 and 256MB - see ocUK shop. Both will be a drastic improvement on my current card (see specs in sig). It is to be used mostly for gaming - HL2 (CS & DOD), COD2 and others.

Either will suffice, IMHO the X850XT is the quicker card, but lacks SM3.

is SM3 worth the fuss? The ATI card is the slightly more expensive by about £10, if SM3 is "the thing", then wouldn't it be best to go with the cheaper card, with SM3??

Thanks for the tip Mav, but the cheapest is £211 and although not much - its beyond my budget at the moment Saying that I got my 4200 ti after they stopped making them (it was the last in the shop!) and its done me proud.

So beyond going to the 7 series - 6800 or x850 - which has the staying power?

This has been done to death on every level, search x850 on these forums and it'll give you a good idea. Me personally, I'd go with the cheapest.

Well the BFG 6800GS OC has just appeared in this week only for £140 so its a fair bit cheaper now

I would say the 6800GS> Simply because as it is AGP you have the possibility to unlock it. The x850xt is faster but its lack of SM3.0 can be hinderance in the latest games whereby you will miss out on some eye candy. If this isn't a problem for you then the X850xt is a very good card.

Yikes! That is a steal!! I've been looking at all the posts related to AGP upgrades for the past week, and could not decide whether to go X850-pro from another e-tailer, or the POV 6800gs. Both are around 160GBP.

This is the decider tho!

thanks guys - I've gone for the X850XT (ordered last night after last post) - just waiting for it it arrive. After more browsing and and going to another site - it seemed the X850 seemed a little better and since everyone says SM3 isn't such a big deal - I'll take the hit for the moment.

You cant go wrong with either card I had an X850Xt a while ago and it was a great card so you wont be dissapointed
