Have around £300 to spend on a graphics card.

Was looking at the new 'XFX 6870 XXX 2GB' cards out with the twin fan cooler.

Can get two of these in crossfire for that amount. Looking at getting a 2560x1440 display. Although I dont do a lot of gaming i would like to play the likes of BF3 / Skyrim as high a setting as possible.

Aware people go on about scaling and microstutter, etc but at that kind of price, surely looks an interesting proposal. How do you think they will perform at that setting. Not sure if a single card solution near that price would compete.

Havent been able to find a review yet of these new cards.

Note I have a [email protected] and 12GB of memory on Gigabyte Z68 motherboard.

Would you pay another £47 for a 3GB 7950?. Single card so less issues (can vary for users) than crossfire.

If you're needing a card for now I reckon that card would be best but it is a little more expensive.

You don't want to be going Crossfire or SLi. A single card is going to be just as fast here and give you far less headaches.

For nVidia, you're looking at a GTX570 for £250 or the GTX580 at £350.

On ATI you have the HD6970 for £240 or the HD7950 for £350. I would highly recommend you stretch to the HD7950 if you can, it's faster than the GTX580 and would future-proof you for a decent long time.

May just get a single 7950. Fancy the Saphire version.

Getting my new monitor next week the '27" Hazro HZ27WC', but have a single 5850 that I have had since they first come out.

Fancy the better quality monitor resolution as I do a lot of Autocad drawings and office stuff, but also like a bit of FPS now and again and my budget for a new card is pushed slightly.

Maybe wait another month and see if the prices drop at all.

Myself, I generally prefer the single card solution, but as Marine says, a couple of 6950's would be excellent value.
I don't prefer multi GPU/cards neither, but a single 7950 would still lack the grunt to push demanding games at 2560 res...unless the user is prepared to sacrifice by not using MSAA.
