Hi guys,
I'm having somewhat of a hardware nightmare at the moment, first my New NEC 20" LCD went down within an hour of it being out of the box and now i'm having issues with the new XFX 7900gtx. I'm getting what I can only describe as noise (as in the grainy photoshop filter) on the desktop and also in games. It's hardly noticeable on the desktop but is quite distracting during Quake and Oblivion where the black areas are noisy/fuzzy/snowy. The clocks are the stock 665/1600 and the temps are fine, (38 idle) with good airflow. Any ideas? I'm leaning towards the memory overheating as opposed to the core.

If you think its overheating try a fan on it (but if it needs this at stock then its defective). :) If your using a crt dont put a mobile phone next to it or any sources of electromagnetic waves.

Cheers guys,

Nothing next to the monitor, phone, router etc

I haven't got a spare cable, though the new replacement monitor's coming tomorrow so I'll give it a go using the cable that comes with it, it could be the CRT monitor i'm using perhaps?

Usually the whole screen goes wobbly/wavey with interference, not just the black areas; it was just a guess. If you had a different card you could certainly eliminate the monitor as the culpret. Probably you are right its the card's fault though.
