XFX 7970 Black edition Double dissipation discussion

Okie i have XFX Black 7979 xfire same overclock but with ref cooler

Results all with maxed out everything!

1920x1080 max v sync off 75fps
1920x1200 max v sync off 65fps
2560x1440 sync on average 60fps

Conclusion xfire 7970 are **** at low res, as if you would buy them for it anyway, 200fps in any res ffs dream on.

They scale better at 2560x1440 as you would expect from £900 of GPU.

I can't comment on the rest of the results, but there must be something wrong with your setup or CrossFire isn't scaling properly yet, 6970 oc'd CrossFire can get ~75fps@1080p.

@stock it's ~70fps@1080p.

I read the same review the OP took the image from and mentioned in his post ;)

XFX R7970 Black Edition Review

If they give biased reviews you'll have to let us know.

You should also let w3bbo know.

He wrote the review (or at least is listed as the editor) and is also an Underboss on this forum.

Thanks Surveyor :).

I'm not about to go on a rant defending my reviews but I have absolutely no allegiance to either NVIDIA or AMD. Anyone is free to check out my last three builds, 2 of which were NVIDIA, one AMD and my current build will be built around 3x7970's. Pretty much speaks for itself. I just go with whatever is quickest and offers the best features I will make use of :).

I seriously doubt any 7970 can attain an average 100FPS in BF3, at least not in the single player car park scene which I run to test the cards performance in BF3. Even the mighty HD6990 can't do that at 1920x1080 Ultra.

As for the card Gary, it is the best one I have tested thus far (thanks for the kind comment). Very stylish design and great cooling. I have a 7950 Windforce to review next and I do like the Windforce cooler but I'm personally not a fan of blue PCB's which seem to plague GIGABYTE GPU's.

When assessing a cards capabilities, max fps means very little. Minimum FPS however is very important as you will notice min fps a lot more than you would max fps.

Please do not hotlink images from Vortez or anywhere else for that matter, it uses up a websites bandwidth which can prove expensive. Feel free to link to the review or host the image yourself on something like Photobucket, Imagur etc.

fair enough :)

seems i got an infraction it seems :s i only linked because your a formal part of the forum other wise i wouldnt of. i also didnt think your webiste was going to be plagued with rude things so i thought it was a non issue, seems im anaughty boy :P a warning would have been nice though huddy not a nasty infraction ;)

ill put up an imageshack in a bit.

back on topic though, the DD xfx version is so classy and i only personally want it because of the design and my white case, funnily enough im interested in the gigabyte offering as it offers far superiour cooling.

It's not my website dude, I just work for them :).

Either the windforce or DD will keep the 7970 very cool. The DD looks nicer but that is my preference. I guess if it's looks you are going for you should match it up to the 'theme' of your case. If it's simply black/white then the XFX would look better. IF you motherboard is blue then the Gigabyte would be more appealing. Both cards are great though so either way you won't be disappointed mate.:)

I warned you in post #5.

You didn't do anything about it so you received an infraction.
