Hey,

Looking for some advice. I've recently just upgraded from a 6870 to A 7970 and now I'm getting no video from card. I've left steps below what ive tried thus far and specs.

Processor i7 2600k
Motherboard - Asus P8Z77V_LX
Gfx Card - XFX 7970
Psu - XFX 650 Pro

Steps;

1.Cleared CMOS
2.Updated Bios
3.Onboard works fine
4.Fans spin on card, during no video Num lock caps lock etc are responsive. Mouse lights on.
5.Reseated card ( about 30 times )
6.Removed all drives leaving primary drive and gfx card.
7.Set bios to PCIE manually
8.Cannot get any video, not even bios.

My motherboard only has one pci 3.0 slot and my old card is gone.

Anyone got any suggestions? My thoughts are either card or something weird has happened and my Pci slot is gone.

Help appreciated :)

Set the IGP as the main GPU, boot up and see if Windows can see the 7970?

Tried the other display connectors on the 7970?

Please report back as to what works or not as it's good info to pass on in future, the hidden device problem has sorted a few Nvidia/AMD problems in the past.

:)

Edit-Don't know if the hidden device solution works in Win8

Quick version to try-disable onboard gfx from the bios.

Still no joy, remove all gfx cards, do this using onboard gfx, but do NOT remove the intel/MS intel driver in hidden devices or you will be in trouble requiring a clean install:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/77614-device-manager-hidden-devices.html

Power down, insert 7970 and try again.

:)

How the hell do I disable onboard? I cant find anyway to do it :-S I've tried everything else and no cigar :-S The card isnt being detected when i do the other method Orcvader mentions I'm going with either card of my slot is gone now :S

Enter the bios in Advanced mode>

Under the 'Advanced' tab, select 'Graphics Configuration'>Select PEG with your 7970 installed, but on reboot, you need to swap cables back into the 7970.

:)

Right guys Its the card. I tried it in the PCI 2.0 slot on the motherboard and its still not being recognised. Spoke with XFX tech support and the psu I have is more than powerful enough to handle the card.

RMA getting logged, thanks for the help guys :D

Right,

tested a few things as I'm going to need to wait tomorrow to get an RMA.

When I plug only a 6pin into the card I get the same reaction with both the 6 & 8 being in ( fans spin ) not detected etc. ( In Both slots )

I've never hard a gfx cards with 8pin connectors, the XFX comes with two 6+2 pins, the chances are extremely slim but there is a possibility they are faulty. I'm still going to get the card swapped based on recommendation by XFX but I think i'll buy an 8 pin converter just in case.

Thoughts?

Let us know how you get on with the XFX RMA. They dont have a great reputation round these parts so it will be interesting to see if they've improved.
