XFX 8800 GTS Making strange noise!

hiya guys

Last night, I started up Crysis, and was greeted by a strange high pitched noise coming from the graphics card.
It seemed to change pitch when I navigated the menu within crysis, each time i clicked an option a different pitch.

When I started playing the game though, it was fine! No more noise.

Anyone else get this? What could it be?!

It didnt sound like the fan to me. The fan was spinning correctly, and not too fast, so it wasnt the speed of it that was making the noise.

I had a similar thing with an XFX card, a 7800gs. When running WIE or when Lost Planet started, it would give a high pitched squeal. Never got to the bottom of it cos I changed Mobo and GPU. Perhaps it is not getting enough power?

My friend has the same noise, but it happens in the oblivion menu yet it’s quiet while playing.

I have a 650Watt Crucial PS. One DVD drive, 2 HDD, and the Mobo and G Card.
I dont think its a power issue. if it was, surely it would just not play the game?
I mean, when the games running, its fine!

I use a thermaltake toughpower 850watt psu and my 8800GTS 512mb does exactly the same. High pitched hissing sound... only quiet but there nonetheless.

My old 8800GTX did the same too.

Some cards do it, some don't. My GTX did it and my X2 does it, its perfectly normal. It happens when the card is outputting at a high frame rate, that's why it often happens in game menus.

This makes sense, since 3dmark rendering software doesn't do it, but I am getting the same high pitch fizzing in Eve Online. (Gigabyte 8800GT OC)

I'm going to go ahead and contact OC and Gigabyte tech support just to confirm that it isn't something that's either hampering the card or a sign that it'll fail early. I suggest anyone else suffering the issue does the same as you have at least logged the issue with them if anything happens in the future.

I get it too, I got it with my 8800GTS 640 too, infact I might of got it with both of em. Nothing to worry about.
