XFX 8800GTX power problem

Hi, I've just tried to install my XFX 8800 GTX today and discovered that I don't have the correct power connectors!! this card requires 2 x 6-pin connectors and I only have one.

What a muppet! I never thought to check PSU requirements (even though it *specifically* warned me in the product description) as I only bought a new PSU about 2 years ago. My PSU is only a Seasonic 430w. The specs says it requires 500w and recommends 600w.

I've had a quick search on the forums and there seems to be the odd post here or there that suggests that, depending on the setup, 400w is ample for 88000GTX. I've also seen that you can buy adapters from 4 pin molex to the 6-pin connector that I need.

I don't plan on running SLi, OC'ing hard, or running a huge number of peripherals...

Does any one have any advice for me? can I get away with the adapters or do I need a new PSU and if so what one should I get please? (without breaking the bank)

Ahhh... discovered why it didn't ship with an adapter - I just found a loose note in the box which says:

"XFX does not support the use of 4-pin to 6-pin power cable converters for these graphics cards. They are designed to work with high performance power supplie with 6-pin PCI Express connectors"

Guess that's answered my original question too. Cosmic :(

Actually, I'm inclined to believe it is rubbish because the warning goes on to read: "...requires an SLi type power supply as deatailed on www.slizone.com"

Sounds like a blatant plug to me (excuse the pun)

In terms of warranty invalidation ~ surely it would be difficult for the engineer to establish 100% which power connections had been used.

I just thought I'd post back here that I received my adapter and it certainly seems to run fine. Big relief :)

I was, however, just curious; what sort of symptoms would I expect if there was a problem?

Would the card under-perform, or would it likely be something more obvious for example: my system not posting or booting?
