XFX and EVGA defecting?

Subxero: there's not really much point re-reading an nvidia article written by charlie...it will be biased and twisted to portray nvidia in the worst possible light.

Exactly. CD is hardly the model of journalistic integrity (an oxymoron at the best of times) when it comes to NV.

Both are joining Atari.

Since 2003, the Atari brand name has been carried on video games but before this the company had a vision, the rebirth of Atari in gaming hardware. Following in the footsteps of Commodore who have re-introduced the brand in PC sales, Atari have been developing next generation video hardware and chipset technology with long-term engineering assistance from Taiwanese-based VIA Technologies (who have largely withdrawn from mainstream manufacture since the successful Athlon 64 K8T800 and K8T890 series).

The Atari "Storm" series GPUs will be available in early Q3, with an expected retail price of below $100 for the Atari 2500 and $150 for the Atari 2600. Both cards come equipped with GDDR3 clocked at 1400 Mhz and a core clock of 375 and 450 Mhz respectively. Atari have confirmed the 2500 scores in the region of 7000 points in 3D Mark 2006, more details to follow soon.

Well it's a good thing that board partners are able to go where they want, and not just tie themselves in place with contracts. In reality it almost doesn't matter in 99% of the situations which card you get anyway, i've had one XFX but that was just because it was on sale here in Denmark and i've recommended an EVGA but only on terms of price too.

They're definitely jumping ship to Intel. Larrabee was going to need some major partners to be successful
I'm not sure how close we are to the Larrabee launch but yeah I reckon INTEL would enlist the help of various successful graphic card manufacturers for the launch, I mean thats what they do with their chipsets so why not Larrabee also?

Would the worlds largest semiconductor manufacturer really need that much help from (in comparison) tiny companies like the afore mentioned XFX and EVGA?

Nvidia may like to strut around and make plenty of shouty noises, but they are the ant in comparison to Intel's elephant when you take a look at the big picture.

Nvidia

Revenue $4.1 Billion USD (2007)
Net income $797.6 Million USD (2007)
Employees over 4,985 (as of June 2008)

Intel

Revenue $38.3 billion USD (2007)
Operating income $8.2 billion USD (2007)
Net income $7.0 billion USD (2007)
Employees 86,300 (2007)

Apparently Intel are infact going to have a similar model to nVidia and ATi except produce the chips themselves and have the board partners stick labels on them for greater market share.

Wow, things really seem to be on a downer for Nvidia. I also came across something about seperate GPU cards being removed and having it all processed by one chip within the next few years, is that likely??

Surely that would see the death of most graphics card companies?

Not likely in terms of what we're here for :) That is high-end graphics, but it will probably be a great product for low-end computing, and Nvidia earns a lot of money here, so they are seriously pressured.

Just larrabee rumours at the moment. Those rumours might just be the marketting beast starting to wake up for Larrabee.
