Built my lush system, i7-920, asus p6t, 64 gb ocz SSD, 6gb ocz gold ram, ocz gamerxstream 850w psu, antec 900, samsung 24", G15 and an xfx 1gb 4890.
All uber quiet, much more so than previous mesh computer prebuilt (amd x2 3800, although, tbh, that is still a very solid, reliable and well built rig and is now with the wife!).
However, soon as i go into any 3D enviornment the ruddy card starts this godawful high pitched squeal that changes pitch if you look at a different region of the screen.
Perhaps it is more obvious with everything else so quiet, but my 512mb 9800GT in the other rig is silent in identical situations.
I contacted OCuk, and then read the google, and apparently it is a common thing across these higher end cards.
Martin R responded quickly and advised this was a common issue and "not a fault" which should go away after a few weeks when it has bedded in.
Not his fault obviously, so no blame there, but i do wonder at what point something is regarded not as a FEATURE but as a FAULT.
If the card, which wasn't stated on the box, randomly poked me in the eye, or bought all the fish at Tescos but didn't affect it's display capabilities be classed as a no fault found feature?
Where is the line drawn?
I suppose i could RMA it and hope i get a card that doesn't include this new feature, or i could train my ears to tune it out but is this an acceptable state of affairs? Reminds me of the whole "acceptable duff pixel rubbish" we had to endure a couple of years ago!
You can go right off computers can't you?
