Would this be a decent upgrade on a 4850? Temps on my current card are far too high and in the current heat its idle temps are around 60oc and ingame ones up to 90.

No in a short answer, I class the 4850 more like a 5770.

So should I be looking at a 5770 or something higher? The price of this card is more within my budget however I'm looking to make as much use of the money I've set aside as I possibly can.

I understand, the 5770 falls between 4850 and the 4870, I currently use one 5770 but intend on buying another in the future and should see performance close to a 5850.

I imagine two these 5750 would be a decent setup but id just buy one card if that was going to the case.
