Ello,

Buying a new GFX Card,, decided to go for the 6850. Which one is the best make out of here

I'm guessing its between the XFX black edition and the MSI. I was told the MSI was better due to higher clock speeds, but I heard the XFX has a good warranty or something?

Also, there isn't a better nvidia card for this price range that I'd be better going for is there?

Cheers in advance guys

The 3 cards linked above compete directly and i would say are slightly better cards. Theres not much in it either way but overclocked the nv cards will be a little faster.

I would go with the asus directcu at the top. Its the cheapest and has an extra years warrenty over the other cards.

Is the GTX 460 actually better than the 6850? I'm not that clued up on OC'ing gfx cards

If you are not overclocking then i would get the 6850 as its slightly faster at normal clocks. The BE edition comes with a slight overclock so for you thats the card i would get. As said above its the quietest card on the market which is a plus. Have a look at the link below and find your resolution it will give you a basic idea of what the 2 cards can do over a multitude of games. Its a recent ti560 review but it uses 6850 and gtx460.

The HD 6850 overclocks like mad even on reference designs. Almost exactly on par with the 1Gb 460, and noticeably faster than the 768Mb version, all with a better cooler and lower power requirements. No-brained at this price point, tbh.

Thanks for the input. You don't need to get an aftermarket cooler or anything to overclock it to its fullest do you?

Cheers

No, my reference one only reaches 70c with a huge overclock to 1000/1200 and a 0.1 voltage increase. It does get a bot noisy once it reaches this temp, but fortunately I game with headphones, so I don't mind it.
