Hello Everyone :)

Could anyone help me please with a real dummy of a question.

I use an XFX Geforce 250GTS 1GB Video card like this one
http://i.neoseeker.com/neo_image/163582/article/gts250look/image002_thumb.jpg

I contribute to a F@H team, F@H, which drives the GPU 90%-100% (load & hot).

Unfortunately I'm a smoker & know full well just how much crud ends up in my CPU H/S, & PSU which I give a good manual clean out every three months or so using a selection of artists brushes (because I dislike using cans of compassed air)

I'd like to do the same with the 250GTS Video card & this is the real dummy part, for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the plastic casing off the video card. Grrrrrr

There appears nothing to un-screw or flip back clips etc.

Has anyone managed to get one of these cases apart please to access and clean the H/S?

Thank you very much for any help

Cheers *hondo*

PS please don't tell me to stop smoking etc :D

stulid Thank you for your reply. :) I respect you for the number of posts you have made, however your post is not helping me to remove the plastic cover.

Please don't get thinking I'm a keyboard warrior, because I'm not.

I just want to find out how the plastic cover is removed without damaging the card. :)

From that picture.

Two screws either side of the exhaust, and if there is nothing on the reverse of the card obvious to unscrew, or unclip, then try carefully pulling the plastic cover away at the edges.

Thanx stulid, I'll give that a try this afternoon, I've got to take the OH to Asda now. :(

Oh BTW, will removing the plastic cover separate the HS from the CPU :confused:or is it a GPU? <---Sorry about the confusion, I'm very much an O.A.P

I'm no expert. I expect the plastic cover to leave the metal heatsink and fan behind.
it really should just unclip/pull off.

You sure thats an XFX card dude? I cant find a single XFX GTS250 on their website with that cooler fitted.

Might seem like a pointless question but different reference coolers can have different attach points.

Hello ManCuBuS :) Thank for the reply, I'm afraid all I know is what it says on the box.

XFX GeForce GTS 250 I actually got it from Overclockers Stoke about 4 months ago

BTW I've not long got back from Asda shopping, while in Blowich I called by a small time PC shop, the guy there says he believes the plastic casing is bonded to the PCB of the graphics card, & if separated it also separates the HS from the CPU & is a pig to setup again in the correct location to dissipate the heat. Does that make sense to you guys, or his this small time dealer BS me?

Thank you for any information :)

I don't know if this is of any help but this is a web picture of it :)

Why does it say I'm a Thug under *hondo* I'm no thug
