XFX GeForce 8800 GTX Extreme

I'm finding overclocking this card frustrating. Using Expertool & Rivatuner. Have core at 621. Moving the slider to 630 doesn't make the card run at 630, it stays at 621, as shown in the Hardware Monitoring in Rivatuner. The next step up is 648 for my card, which it can't manage at all. Freezes in 3dmark06 during 1st test. There's no in-between speed to select. Have got an Arctic Cooling Accelero Extreme still in it's packaging sat here. Card only reaching 64c at 100% fan speed so it's hardly cooking. Don't think the Accelero is gonna bridge the gap. Guess there's only 1 way to find out. Anyone else have this problem?

how you tried pushing the shaders any further? my one gets 1620 stable but core tops at 621 like my gts 320
The shaders jump from 1458 to 1512. Seemed ok at 1512 but deffo not at next step. The mem i'm leaving at 2000. Bit disappointed with it as i sold a Point of View GTX recently that clocked better. Well i did do originally but started deteriorating, hence quickly flogging it off on fleabay.

There really not overclocking that well, seems those who bought the cards at launch got 650-675, while the later ones seem be a fair bit lower.

My 8800GTX from launch is at 675/1620/2052 with stock cooler.

I though new revisions (so latest chips) should clock higher but it seems I was wrong. No way my new gtx could overclock to 675

in the above post i got mines on that but the temps for me is 63c full load.
Hey Azibs? what was your score on 3dmarks 06?
And yours happy if you done one am sure you did :P

Can't get 3dmark06 to run says somethings missing, tried reinstalling and all that wilth adim priv. but nothing. However if I can get it to run I'll post back.

Gameruk, whats your 3dmark06 score?

At the moment am getting 12847 3DMarks06, not sure how good that it am planning on upgrading soon to an sli mobo and Quad cpu intel offcourse, am thinking about getting 2 cards in sli mode cant do it with current mobo.I will be waiting to see what like the new cards are like when there out before i upgrade.

Got it to work at last:D

I got 14106 (ideally want to overclock my q6600 to 3.6 to get it nearly 15k lol)

***********

If my memory is artifacting in 3DMark06 @ 2100 but not in games, then is ok to leave it along?

No, if it's not stable it's not stable, might cause crashes or permanently damage your memory if you try and run it like that continuously or long periods of time.

Understood :o lol, anyways it's now lowered and fine at 650 Core, 1620 Shaders (currently) and 2088 Memory.

Interesting post this, I'm experiencing similar overclocking headroom issues...

I haven't tested it much but my XFX Extreme doesn't overclock anywhere near the previous two 8800 GTXs I've had in the past; I was expecting the opposite being pre-overclocked (thinking they'd have to be higher grade).

My Point of View 8800 GTX I got in early 2007 (over £300 then ) was able to overclock nicely to 675 core without a lot of effort.

I've since changed from watercooling back to air cooling and using high-end Thermalright HR-03 Plus's which are very efficient and produce some impressive results.

My two original 8800 GTXs were able to SLI quite nicely at 650/1000 which seemed perfect to me.

Unfortunately my older 8800 GTX developed a fault with it's SLI bridge connector ('golden fingers') which forced me to buy another 8800 GTX...which happened to be this particular card from overclockers at an awesome £170 inc vat and delivery!

However, I have found that @ 650 core, this card quickly gets major artifacts (in Crysis) and crashes in the first test with 3D Mark 2006.

I'm going to purchase another HR-03 Plus kit and put this on the card in replacement to the stock cooling and see if this makes a difference but I'm a bit dubious - in my experience the stock cooling will normally get you to the clock speed you desire but it normally is running too hot for comfort or may have stability issues after a few hours use...not that you can barely get to the clock at all.

Seems to work fine @ 625 core but that's not enough ;) After having the higher speeds with previous cards i'd be gutted if I can't get both card's running @ 650/1000! :)
