Also, i think i may need to update the bios, as i can't use the fan controls in CCC. i dont have a USB stick. is there anyother way to install the bios ?

The bios my card has, is printed in GPU-Z in the picture, not sure if that's an older version, as the one i downloaded does't say what one it is.

Be great if someone could help out on this one plz :)
p.s, not sure why the picture has that extra white bit attched lol ?
Cheers.

That's the old BIOS (it's the same BIOS version as mine), so you won't have manual fan control - you need to apply the BIOS update for that. As for overvolting, I'd recommend Afterburner.

never updated a graphics card bios before:p.
How do i do this? It says to use a usb stick. i don't have one of these, is there another way ?

I thought you would need to update the memory voltage also by using the xfx volatage tool ?
Why havn't you updated you're bios ? Are you going to update you're bios :D what volts did you use to get 875/1300 mate ?

Cheers.

You can use any USB stick even a 128mb one from a local shop or a floppy disk if you want to be old school, though the 5970's bios might be too large lol for a floppy disk lol.

You can get a stick from argos for buttons. The new Bios comes with a read me.
Its very easy to do and takes 2 mins. I wouldnt evan try to Oc till you sort that job. Also download the lastest drives for your Mobo/GPU and chipset.

I read there was an issue with the XFX BIOS, something about it updating the cards in the wrong order. I haven't seen any confirmation either way but my card works so I decided to leave it. As for volts I'm on 1.137 with Afterburner, though I'm only on 850/1200 at the moment - I didn't like the noise from the fan when the overclock was much higher.

I couldn't even get 850/1200. i see you have 1000watt.
Maybe my 850 is faulty. must be :(

Is that a Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 1000W you got. ?
i'm going to get 1000w now. see if it sorts it.
I build my own pc's. i'm no guru, but know little bit :p

Spec.
Win 7 64bit
Antec 1200
3x hardrives, (which i tried clocking with these not connected)
i7 [email protected]
Asus P6t DELUX SE
6gb Ram
Coolermaster 850w

Oh well.

Cheers.

correct me if i'm wrong but you just need to follow these steps

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18061954

but replace the asus bios with the most recent 5970 bios.

I have done this for my 5870 (using sapphires own updated bios) and it worked fine.

you dont need a bigger PSU

Reason the overvolt tool might not be working is because you are running gpu-z with it.

Try running it without gpu-z.

gpu-z will basically query the hardware and this will in effect block anything else ( as in overvolt tool ) from doing the same.

I have the xfx not the asus. not sure if it matters ? thanks for that link. i orderd a usb from some place which will arrive tomorrow.

Maybe not, but even when i put the core up 5mhz, and start moving whatever is on my desktop, the screen goes all funny!!. really hope it's my psu. orderd the Corsair HX 1000W else where, which will arrive tomorrow.
o/c are out of stock. i want to add a 5850/5870 again later on.
if that's not the issue, then i'm lost!!! :p

Tried that mate.
Read it don't work with win7 64bt, but that thread was back in november/dec, 09. so not sure if they have sorted it.
the strange thing is, last night i tried just using ATI Overdrive, then just up the volts to 1.262 (which only made it stable) all at 850/1150. stable
Today it wasn't. so went back to stock, the the pc froze on me. only had this problem since using the 5970. but at stock its a champ :D so hopefuly it's the psu. fingers crossed. strange if it's not.
