i only got my new card a few days ago and already the cap squeal from it is annoying me, as well as the the fact its so noisy. most games if i have vsync off the card decides to fire up and hit 100% load and put the fan on full blast which is relatively annoying and even if i have it on the card will still like to fire up until it decides otherwise, not as loud if i have it off but still noticeably loud.

general web page browsing gets the thing squealing away and even thou i turned on vsync in CCC it still persists, not all websites thou but I'd say about 80%...

just wondering if this is at all normal for these cards and if there is anyway to either quite the bugger down or stop it from trying to "lift off" when ever i try and play a game...

I stuck mine on static fan speed (40%) and although it's not quiet its ok.

When I go in and out of games or browse websites I don't notice any difference in the sound. :confused:
 
What does vsync have to do with fanspeed?? :confused:

Anyway, use manual fan control...set to 35 or 40% for gaming and leave it on 15-20% or auto for normal use.
 
hm, i can imagine that coil squel is very annoying if its happening outside of games aswell!never heard of it happeneing whilst web browing before.
 
its konwn to happen while scrolling a webpage, stating that.


I had a 4870 which liked to go full speed for no reason desipite I set the fan, good thing is it didn't scream through....only the fan did :|

happening when browsing? ok that would drive me insane. Just a quick note, coil hum or whatever its called has often been associated to the power supply, you are using a Jeantech psu, I would seriously seriously consider replacing that with a better brand.

I have also heard coil hum being 'fixed' by changing to a enermax power supply.

a new psu has been on my mind and could solve the problem but if it not the problem then i don't wanna fork out for a new one...

as for the squeal, yes it only does it out of a game while scrolling through web pages, although not but most, google and ocuk forum do it...

i will have a go at setting the fan speed myself but how will this affect the temperature of the card?

and yes the squeal is very annoying as my desktop sits up on my desk so its more noticable than it was on the floor

as for solving the squealing problem myself i'd rather not tamper with the card, even if it means just taking the heatsink off, knowing me it wont work afterwards :(
 
i get the noise too when brwosing most websites using my mouse wheel very strange.

my psu is only 3 weeks old so i dont think thats the problem
 
Mine's doing the same.

It's very loud when running 3dmark06 but not as bad running games :(

Thinking of sending the card back :mad:

Oh the power supply is a corsair tx850
 
im sending mine back when ocuk get back to me tommorow hopefully.
The card squeals when using the mouse wheel web browising, and squeals in all games with vsync on and off highly annoying
 
my XFX 4890 only "squeld" in 3DMark06 a few times.

And the fan isn't that bad for me... it runs at 50% and doesn't get overly loud...

im on 9.4 drivers and have a 500W Raidmax PSU. so far had no probs.

65 degrees under load.

No webpage squealing either
